Celebration of life set for Dr. William Patterson on UI campus
URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The University of Illinois is holding an on-campus celebration of life for former professor and community mentor Dr. William Patterson, who died earlier this week.

The Celebration of Life for Dr. Patterson is scheduled for April 14, 2024 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, his wife, Lori, shared on Facebook.
She said the past few days have been the hardest of her life and she hopes the community joins her family for the celebration.
“We know there is so much love, outpouring, and grief moving through our beloved community, and we have not yet had a moment to connect with you, your posts, your calls and your texts,” Lori wrote on Facebook. “Please know that were beyond grateful that we will, one day, get to digest it all and learn even more about Doc’s deep impact.”

Lori requested in lieu of flowers for people to donate to STEAM Genius Programs to help continue Dr. Patterson’s work.
