A celebration of craft beers is coming to Modesto area. Where and when you can sample them

Sample more than 150 craft beers at the Central Valley Brewfest. You also can make your way to see the action at the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee. And Central West Ballet brings “Romeo and Juliet” to the Gallo Center stage. These are just some of the events planned in the Modesto region May 11-17.

Brewfest

The Central Valley Brewfest features more than 150 brews to sample, along with art and music. There also will be a VIP wine sampling tent. Patrons must be 21 or older to attend.

Jumping Frog Jubilee

The frogs will be hopping at the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee. Along with frog competitions, the fair offers food, entertainment, a destruction derby, livestock, vendors and more. A concert will be held 8 p.m. May 17 by country singer Ned Ledoux.

“Romeo and Juliet”

Shakespeare’s story of star-crossed lovers comes to the Gallo Center for the Arts with Central West Ballet’s presentation of “Romeo and Juliet.” The production features fencing, Prokofiev’s score and a final touching scene.

“Born Yesterday”

The Gallo Center Repertory Company presents “Born Yesterday,” a comedy-drama that became a film starring Judy Holliday and William Holden. In the story, egotistic Harry Brock goes to Washington to make crooked deals with government big-wigs.

Joey Medina

Comedian Joey Medina brings his humor to the State Theatre. Medina was part of Paramount Pictures’ “The Original Latin Kings of Comedy” with George Lopez, Paul Rodriguez and Cheech Marin.

“Tribute to Johnny Cash”

James Garner’s “Tribute to Johnny Cash” celebrates the life and music of the Man in Black. Garner and his band re-create Cash’s biggest hits, with stories and personal anecdotes. Also appearing will be Cowboys by Night (Rob Strickland & Kenny Fischer).

Columbia Diggins

Columbia State Historic Park’s annual living-history event, Columbia Diggins 1852, returns with 150 costumed volunteers. Visitors experience an 1850s mining camp re-created with period clothing and activities.
