WHITE HAVEN, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An annual celebration in a Luzerne County community turned out to be double the fun this holiday weekend.

Hundreds of people came out Sunday to take part in all that the bicentennial event had to offer.

This Memorial Day weekend, White Haven is also celebrating its 200th year while honoring veterans.

Marching, riding, and revving their way to Lehigh Park in White Haven, the borough held its Memorial Day weekend parade.

“We marched it was the most beautiful we marched from East Side borough over the bridge down Main Street and right over here to our beautiful Lehigh Park,” said White Haven Chamber of Commerce President Linda Miller.

This parade is even more special this year. It comes as White Haven celebrates its bicentennial.

The celebration is a hit no matter your age. Two sisters say what brought them out here is their favorite part of the afternoon.

“I wanted to see the parade and I just loved it,” White Haven resident Abigail Donelan said.

“What was your favorite part about it?” 28/22 News Reporter Iyee Jagne asked.

“Getting the candy,” Donelan replied.

“It’s a fun day! We have games for the kids and adults alike it’s all about hanging out together music band and also a patronage to our veterans of course,” Miller explained.

While enjoying this weekend it’s also important to take time and appreciate those who served and paid the price for our freedom.

“It was nice to bring families out and bring the community out for Memorial Day in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice,” said White Haven Borough Council Member John Zugarek.

Miller says she looks forward to many more events like this.

“This is a big deal we’re celebrating 200 years and looking for 200 more years of moving forward,” Miller stated.

There’ll be many more events like this throughout the year.

In July, they will be holding a Main Street Market with crafts and food.
