ST. LOUIS — As St. Louis Saint Patrick’s Day approaches, the city is preparing for two annual parades, a run and an Irish festival, a full weekend of Irish themed culture.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown St. Louis is on March 16 at noon and the annual Ancient Order of Hibernians Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Dogtown is on March 17 at 11 a.m.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown St. Louis:

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade follows a route beginning at Aloe Plaza (20th and Market), it continues east on Market, and ends at 8th and Market. Along the route, various vendors offer a selection of food and drinks, including soft drinks, hot dogs, burgers, bratwurst, snacks, novelties, and beer.

Visitors can enjoy the Irish Village at Ballpark Village, offering food, entertainment, and fun throughout the day.

Detailed guidance on parking and public transit is provided on the event’s website, but parking in metered spaces requires payment as it’s not a city holiday. The St. Patrick’s Day run is scheduled to kick off at 9 a.m. preceding the parade.

Hibernians Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Dogtown:

The Ancient Order of Hibernians Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Dogtown features the Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales and commences at Oakland Avenue, proceeding south on Tamm Avenue, and concluding at Manchester Avenue.

This year they are honoring the founders of the first St. Patrick’s Day parade, Jim Sheerin, Tim Wiese and Jim Mohan, will be as Grand Marshals of the 2024 parade.

The Dogtown Irish Festival starts at 9 a.m., and you can enjoy a variety of food and drinks from different vendors throughout the day. There will be live music at different locations at the festival. Festival sales start at 9 a.m. and wrap up at 6 p.m., with Tamm establishments closing at 8 p.m.

New Parking restriction in Dogtown:

There are new parking restrictions for this parade, with Manchester Road closed from Hampton to McCausland during the parade hours, necessitating traffic detours. To alleviate congestion, alternate routes via Arsenal Street to the south of Manchester Road and I-64 (US 40) to the north are recommended, with clear signage provided.

No parking zones along the parade route will be strictly enforced from 6 a.m. on the day of the parade, with traffic diverted to ensure safety. Pedestrian safety measures include the closure of Tamm Avenue and all cross streets one block in each direction from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Following the parade, festival organizers will start the cleanup process, and this will delay reopening of streets. St. Louis Metropolitan Police presence will be on scene to ensure the security and smooth flow of the event, with streets potentially remaining closed until 10 p.m.

Attendees are advised to plan their departure routes accordingly, with east/west traffic through the festival area limited on March 17th. Once the parade concludes, Manchester Road will reopen for regular traffic, facilitating smooth exit routes for festival-goers.

In summary, St. Louis is primed for an exciting Saint Patrick’s Day celebration, with parades, festivities, and cultural experiences awaiting all who participate.
