Cause of Scranton grocery store fire released

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Scranton Fire Department has released the cause of the fire at Giant Market.

According to the Scranton Fire Department, on May 20 around 4:05 a.m., they were dispatched to Giant Market on Nay Aug Avenue for a reported smoke condition in the backroom of the building.

At 4:25 a.m. the fire became a second-alarm fire which brought in additional fire units to help extinguish the fire and the fire was under control by 4:53 a.m.

The release states, that the Scranton Fire Department determined the cause of the fire to be roof insulation caused by a hot water pressure washer used for cleaning.

Investigators say the cause of the fire was accidental.
