Cats dead, kittens rescued after separate fires break out in Gresham

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A truck fire and a separate blaze which left several cats dead and led to the rescue of kittens prompted response from both Gresham and Portland fire crews early Saturday morning.

Just after 5:30 a.m., officials say both fires broke out simultaneously, with the first involving several vehicles on fire next to house converted to an automotive business.

Crews also found the fire had spread to the attic space.

Due to the smoke inhalation on the inside of the building, officials say several cats were killed. However, they rescued three newborn kittens who were taken to the closest animal shelter for care.

The second blaze involved a large amount of tires inside of a truck which caught on fire near a commercial building, eventually spreading to the roof. But crews were soon able to put it out.
