CASA’s Derby Party fundraiser to benefit child advocacy programs May 4 at the Gardiner Ranch
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The 150th running of the Kentucky Derby is coming up May 4 and the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Kern County is holding a fundraiser to support their mission of advocating for children in foster care, while celebrating “the greatest two minutes in sports.”
Heaven Vasquez with CASA joined 17 News at Noon to speak about how the organization’s advocates help and speak up for children going through the motions of the court system.

“They’re able to speak up for them in court, really give them a voice where they would have none…and speak up for them when it comes to being in front of the judge and let them know what it is that they need,” Vasquez said during the interview.
Funds raised from the Derby party will go towards supporting CASA’s programs to continue offering help for children in Kern.
No Kentucky Derby party is complete without large extravagant hats. The event will feature dinner, dancing, raffle silent auction and the 2024 Kentucky Derby races.
You can still purchase tickets, but they are going fast. The party begins at 4:30 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m.
