Carthage man avoids prison time for high-speed DWI pursuit

CARTHAG, Mo. — A Carthage man accused of driving drunk and driving at speeds over 100 mph will not go to prison for the crime.

Monday morning in Jasper County court, Michael Elliot, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of resisting arrest and one count of DWI.

As part of a plea deal, the judge sentenced Elliot to five years supervised probation. Two other charges were dismissed against Elliot. Those charges stem from an incident the day after Christmas last year when police tried to pull Elliot over for speeding.

Officers say instead Elliot sped off, hitting speeds of more than 110 mph.
