CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Carthage City Council approves hiring a firm to handle impeachment proceedings against Mayor Dan Rife.

In a 7-to-2 vote, the council approved hiring a St. Louis based law firm.

Earlier in the evening, the city council approved budgeting $25,000 to cover the expense of that procedure. Mayor pro tem Alan Snow has been authorized to sign that contract.

It’s not known when that impeachment hearing will take place.

A second item up for discussion: hiring three attorneys to give an opinion whether the city council can fire City Administrator Greg Dagnan without the mayor’s consent.

That item was tabled until a special meeting — scheduled for next Monday night.
