Turkey's newest airline AJet has opened ticket sales ahead of maiden flights on March 31, meaning more options for people planning a trip to Turkey, one of the world's most popular destinations.

A replacement for Turkish Airlines subsidiary AnadoluJet, which sold low-cost trips across Anatolia, AJet said it will fly to more than 40 domestic routes and connect Turkey with more 50 overseas airports, including London Stansted, Rome Fiumicino and Belgrade Nikola Tesla.

AJet said it has 95 aircraft ready for deployment and aims to double its fleet size over the next decade. The aim, according to Turkish Airlines, is to widen the group’s "expansive reach across the globe" by selling budget fares, including domestic trips going for 299 Turkish lira ($9.25) at launch.

Turkish Airlines was the world’s 8th-biggest carrier, measured by revenue, in Forbes' 2023 list of the world’s businesses, while Turkey regularly features among the world’s top 10 most popular destinations for holidaymakers, measured by number of international arrivals. Istanbul last year was the world’s most visited city, according to data put together by market researcher Euromonitor International.

AnadoluJet said earlier in March that people booked on its flights would be assigned seats on AJet starting from March 31, telling those with tickets that it would "share general information about the status of your flights after our system transition."
