Car show slated for Saturday at Clarkco State Park

Mar. 21—Car and truck enthusiasts can enjoy viewing antique, classic, and vintage models during the Rides of the Past Car Show to be held Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Clarkco State Park.

A fundraiser for Friends of Clarkco State Park, the event is the second annual car show sponsored by the organization.

"This is our second year to have a car show," said Marsha Roberts, president of Friends of Clarkco. "We had a good turnout last year. We had 82 cars."

She said they are hoping for just as many cars, trucks, jeeps, rat rods and bikes to turn out for this Saturday's event, too.

The funds raised will help Friends of Clarkco undertake smaller improvement projects at the park. For example, the group recently purchased swings to be installed for day use and the camping area. In the past, Friends of Clarkco has funded an array of improvements from expansion of disc golf to an 18-basket course to construction of fire pits and benches to upgrades in the cabins.

"The car show helps to bring awareness to the park as well as helps us to raise a little money for amenities at the park," Roberts said. "All of the money raised stays at the park to do things at the park."

The car show will get underway at 9 a.m. Cost to register a vehicle for the show is $20. Entry gate fee for the state park is $2 per person.

Live music will be provided beginning around 9:30 a.m. by Gravel Road Prophets, made up of Stephen Hennington and Chuck Green.

Concessions will be available by Friends of Clarkco, and T-shirts from the car show will be on sale with cash and cards accepted. Several raffle drawings for prizes, including a battery-operated vacuum with charger and two batteries, will be held throughout the event with tickets costing $3 for one or $10 for four.

Numerous awards will be given out at the event in categories for cars, trucks/jeeps, rat rods and bikes.

For cars, awards will be given for Best of 1934-1938 in honor of the time frame of when Clarkco State Park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps; Best in Show; Best of Vintage (1919-1930); Best of Antique (1931-1975); Best of Classic (1976-1999); and Best Modern Car (2000-2023).

In the trucks and jeeps category, awards will be given in Best of 1934-1938, Best of Show, Best of Vintage (1919-1930), Best of Antique (1931-1975), Best of Classic (1976-1999), and Best Modern Truck (2000-2023).

For rat rods, a Best in Class award will be awarded. Best in Show and Most Unique awards will given in the motorcycle category. Also, fan favorite and kids' favorite awards will be presented, Roberts said.
