Waiting to find out who your roommates will be freshman year can be the scariest part of your first semester, and can totally make or break your year! College life can be difficult to adjust to, especially if you’re going to a school far from home, so it’s imperative that your dorm room be a safe, relaxing space to return to at the end of a hectic day. It’s ideal if you and your roommate hit it off and can navigate your first semester together, but as long as your roommate is at bare minimum respectful of you and your space, you’re going to be fine.

Unfortunately for future Winnie Chen and her friend Guistinna Tun, their freshman year roommate at UCLA immediately made it clear that she wasn’t going to be respectful, or fun, or anything good at all.

Winnie and Guistinna’s roommate, referred to as “Ashly” by Teen Vogue emailed them a list of demands when they didn’t immediately respond to her first email.

Here are some gems:

“…I don’t really care as long as you both know this and understand that I’m not gonna settle for anything less what I’m gonna tell you what I’m gonna get once I arrive in the dorm.”

“I’m also taking one of the white closets. There should be two white closets and I’m taking one of them. I don’t care which one it is, just know that I’m taking one of them.”

“I don’t care who gets the bottom bunk but just know what I stated above is what I’m expecting once I arrive at the dorm and I won’t be in the mood for any arguing or nonsense because one of you two decided to deliberately disregard this e-mail.”

And, wait for it…

“If needed be I’ll turn it into a bigger situation so don’t try me.”

We can’t even IMAGINE kicking off your freshman year with that email. Talk about starting out on the wrong foot. Guistinna responded, waaaay more tactfully than we think we would’ve been able to.

…but of course that wasn’t the end of it. Ashly responded, and while she was a little more reasonable, there are still at least a DOZEN red flags in this email.

Yikes! Good luck, girls!
