Callaway re-elects two city commissioners by wide margins

CALLAWAY − Voters in Callaway re-elected two incumbent commissioners by large margins during the 2024 municipal elections on Tuesday.

Callaway Mayor Pamn Henderson was unopposed in her re-election bid and will retain her seat.

Incumbent Bob Pelletier fended off a challenge from Christine Smallwood for the Ward 3 seat. Pelletier won about 62% of votes, or 455, to 38%, or 282 votes, for Smallwood.

Incumbent Kenneth Ayers defended his Ward 4 seat against a challenge from David Agosta. Ayers took 447 votes, or about 62%, vs. 227 votes, or 38%, for Agosta.

"It's really a heartwarming feeling to be elected," Ayers said. "This is my first election and this is the first time I was chosen by the commission in Callaway."

Ayers touched on his priorities.

"I want to keep the city in its own length," Ayers said. "We want to protect our citizens. The Bay County Sheriff's Department and the Bay County Fire Department have done a fantastic job. I want to make sure our employees are taken care of by making sure they are appreciated, and the proper insurance is provided.

"The main goal is to keep taxes low," he said. "We want to help people with fixed incomes. We have a 25% surplus and because of that, we are able to keep our budget balanced and pay for things in case emergencies pop up."
