Calif. Family of 4 Dead After Car Crashes into Tree: ‘Heartbroken’

Friends said Tarun and Rincy George and their two children were driving back from a birthday party before the accident

A single-vehicle crash in Pleasanton, Calif., claimed the lives of two adults and two of their children.

In a release posted to Facebook, the Pleasanton Police Department said the accident occurred on April 24 around 9 p.m. on Foothill Road near Stoneridge Drive. “The victims were a Pleasanton family of two adults and two children under the age of 15,” the police said.

The police added that "speed may have been a factor" in the accident, although the investigation is still ongoing. “The vehicle appears to have lost control and collided with a large oak tree. Despite efforts to render aid to one of the children, all four individuals died at the scene,” they said.

Police and the Alameda County Coroner’s Office have not yet released the identities of the four fatalities. But according to NBC affiliate KNTV, those who attended a memorial at Val Vista Park held for the victims on Sunday, April 28 identified them as Tarun and Rincy George and their two children, Rowan and Aaron.

A neighbor named Srini, whose son knew one of the George brothers, told Fox affiliate KTVU that "it’s very difficult to digest the news… The last three or four days we couldn’t sleep well."

Dipti Rawat, a friend of the Georges, said she couldn’t believe they were gone, telling KNTV that her son was best friends with Aaron. “He called my son just two hours before it all happened,” she said of Aaron.

Rawat also noted, per KNTV, that Tarun and Rincy George’s families are from India, and that a family member is en route to that country to deliver the news to relatives there.

Sarah McClimon, a violin teacher for one of the boys, told KTVU that her students find it difficult to comprehend the news. "He was a very, very nice student,” she said. “I’m just heartbroken for the family."

Friends also told the outet the family was driving back from a birthday party when the accident occurred.

The Pleasanton Police Department also offered "its deepest condolences to everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss." They added, "We understand that this tragedy deeply impacts the victims’ families, first responders, and our entire community, and encourage those affected to seek support through available resources."
