Vette has been a commissioner since 2011 and the board chair since 2023. She has resigned effective May 23, the county announced Tuesday in a release.

Now, commissioners must appoint a replacement for Vette, whose term ends Dec. 31.

Applications will be accepted through June 7. The county says qualified applicants must live in District 3, which includes Battle Creek precincts 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 11, 13 and 23, and be a registered voter there.

Eligible applications will be forwarded to the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners, which will interview candidates at its June 20 meeting. At the same meeting, the board will vote on a candidate to fill the District 3 seat, and that person will immediately be sworn in, according to the county.
