Calgary man accused of fatal domestic assault charged with murdering wife

A Calgary man has been charged with murder in the death of his wife following what police describe as a fatal domestic assault.

Manpreet Kaur, 25, was killed in her northeast home on April 21.

On Wednesday, Calgary police announced that her husband, Maninderpreet Singh, 22, is charged with second-degree murder.

Just after 9 a.m. on April 21, police were called to a home in the 100 block of Redstone Common N.E. for reports of a woman in medical distress.

First responders tried to save her life but Kaur died at the scene.

Singh was taken into custody at the home but released within 24 hours without charges being laid.

He is due is back in court on May 14.
