Caldwell County Early College High School class of 2024 graduates

May 15—CALDWELL COUNTY — Caldwell County Early College High School held its commencement ceremony for the class of 2024 on Saturday, April 11. Family and friends alike gathered at 4 p.m. in the J.E. Broyhill Civic Center to celebrate the 81 graduates.

The graduates were able to graduate after earning 5,877 credits, of which 5,750 are transferable. Students who received a grade point average of 3.5 or higher were recognized as honor graduates, totaling 49 of the 81 total graduates between Cum Laude, Magna and Summa Cum Laude graduates. The class also featured 22 graduation marshals.

"The students of the graduating class of 2024 will be remembered as 'helpers,' said principal Meredith Griffin, "the helpers of not only this generation, but of the future. They have taken the lessons they have learned about citizenship and responsibility and made Caldwell County a better place to live. They have completed service both within and outside of the school. Some of the places the class of 2024 has served include: local elementary schools, Pet Partners, fire departments, The Women's Shelter, Helping Hands, and Yokefellow. One specific accomplishment that stands out to me during their tenure at CECHS is that this group of students logged a total of 5027.25 service hours. Some even created their own service projects! We celebrate diplomas and degrees, but truly greater indeed is the kindness they have shown for their fellow citizens. I am proud of the class of 2024, believe that they are destined for great things, and know we will all benefit from their future endeavors."

"When thinking about the past five years of high school," said Paige Greene, "I never would have imagined the class of 2024 would experience so much. Through it all my class was defined by our constant determination to make the best out of the worst. Although some moments were better than others, my class never allowed a situation to determine our outlook. In the midst of Covid, we made fun out of fire drills and ping pong tournaments. Even when faced with a literal tornado, we responded with card games and spontaneous doodles to make the lockdown fun. Besides being a trait the class of 2024 is known for, our perseverance and optimism will carry us far in life!"

"I would describe my graduating class as a family," said graduate Magdeline Gragg. "We've celebrated together, we've grieved together, and we've accomplished so much together. We're a family in the simplest of terms."
