The Bushes, Clintons, Obamas, and Melania Trump: Twitter Is Analyzing This Photo Like It’s Renaissance Art

The Twittersphere was quick to analyze the group photo’s nuanced body language.

What happens when Melania Trump, the Bushes, the Clintons, and the Obamas are all in the same room? And even furthermore, pose for a photo together? Analysis, of course—lots and lots of analysis.

Attending the funeral of the late Barbara Bush, who passed away at age 92, this weekend, the First Lady put current politics aside and posed alongside Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, George W. Bush and Laura Bush, and George H.W. Bush—all prominent figures who have, at one point or another, spoken out against her husband, President Donald Trump. Knowing the dynamics of the group, the Twittersphere was quick to analyze the group photo, combing through its nuanced body language and purposeful formation as though it’s a classic Renaissance painting.

Commentators especially zeroed in on the First Lady’s authentic smile, noting her enthusiasm—at a funeral setting, no less—was likely due to the absence of her husband. (Several memes of her sharing a laugh with Obama lit up the Internet as well.) Twitter was also quick to notice the chumminess between the Clintons and the Bushes—a relationship that has, somehow, transformed from fraught to almost-BFF levels. As one Twitter user mentions below, the photo essentially serves as an important reminder and lesson for all of us: “It shows that everyone can get along when they try.”
