Burke man wins $1 million in Powerball drawing

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Who wants to be a millionaire? A lot of people.

Who is a millionaire? Nicholas Perez of Burke.

Perez, who is a construction worker, won $1 million after he bought a ticket for the Powerball drawing on Aprl 1. The jackpot that day stood at $1 billion.

The Virginia Lottery said Perez bought his ticket at Safeway, located at 8646 in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County.

The numbers drawn on April 1 were 19-24-40-42-56, with a Powerball of 23. Perez’s ticket was one of only six in the country to match the first five numbers and the only one in Virginia.

The odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. The overall odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 25.
