Burglary suspects found with stolen mail, mailbox keys after reversing into San Joaquin County police car

(FOX40.COM) — A burglary case involving two Bay Area residents led to their arrests after San Joaquin County police said they “purposely rammed” their vehicle into a police car and were found with numerous stolen items including mail, mailbox keys, and identity theft-related material.

According to the Tracy Police Department, a 34-year-old man and 32-year-old woman from Fremont were booked into a San Joaquin County jail for various felony possession, identity theft, and conspiracy charges related to the incident.

On Monday, around 4 p.m., the Tracy police officers said they received calls about an auto burglary involving suspects reportedly driving a “newer green Dodge Charger.” A few moments later, police said an officer saw a vehicle matching the description in the parking lot of a Motel 6 on the 3800 block of North Tracy Boulevard.

Police said that the officer who initially noticed the vehicle began watching while awaiting backup when they saw two people enter the green Dodge Charger and attempt to leave the parking lot.

According to police, when an officer tried to detain the two people inside the car, the 34-year-old man “quickly reversed and purposely rammed” a Tracy police car.

“Thankfully, no officers with the Tracy Police Department were injured during the incident,” the agency said in a news release.

The suspects’ car was eventually disabled and both suspects were detained, police said. Following the detainment, police officers searched the involved vehicle, which led to the discovery of a loaded ghost gun, various pieces of stolen mail and packages, stolen mailbox keys for community mailboxes, electronic vehicle theft devices, and more.
