Bucks County and South Jersey dry out on Friday, May 17. Won't be so lucky this weekend

Even though the Bucks County-South Jersey region will dry out somewhat on Friday, May 17. back-to-back low pressure systems will produce periods of rain throughout the weekend.

Residents will have to wait until at least Monday for the next period of sustained sunshine.

What’s the weather in Bucks County on Friday, May 17?

The bit of good news for Friday is that Bucks County should largely dry out, said Cameron Wunderlin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

"The low pressure system is slowly moving off the coast, which will keep a lot of cloud cover over the area on Friday," Wunderlin said. "It'll be a mostly cloudy day, with high temperatures around 72 degrees."

What’s the weather in South Jersey on Friday, May 17?

Friday is shaping up to be one of the better days weather-wise of the next three in South Jersey, Wunderlin said, as daytime high should reach the low to mid 70s under mostly cloudy skies.

Things will be mostly seasonal in South Jersey as well," Wunderlin said. "With the cloud cover, we are running just a hair below average."

Friday will be otherwise tranquil in South Jersey, with a slow, 5 mph easterly breeze.

Weekend forecasts for Bucks County and South Jersey

Friday's respite from the rain will be short-lived, as another system moving in will produce chances of rain Saturday and Sunday.

"As we get into the Friday night-Saturday timeframe, we do have another weak low pressure system moving into the region," Wunderlin said. "So we are looking at showers on Friday night into Saturday, and even into Saturday night."

Rain is expected to start at daybreak Saturday in Bucks County, according to the National Weather Service's 7-day outlook for Bucks County, which will drop temperatures back just a touch, to a high of 68 degrees.

There may be a few breaks in the clouds on Sunday in Bucks County. Otherwise, temperatures should once again reach the high 60s.

It will be mostly cloudy across the Delaware River on Saturday, with highs expected to reach only the low to mid 60s, according to the National Weather Service's 7-day outlook for South Jersey.

Sunday will get off to a cloudy start, but skies should clear a bit later, leading to a partly sunny afternoon in South Jersey, with temperatures in the mid 60s.

Looking ahead, Wunderlin said next week should get off to a bright start.

"Things will start to improve by Sunday afternoon. A weak high pressure system will build in the area, which will keep any heavy rain at bay, to the south.

"That system should hold firm for next Monday and Tuesday, leading to a mostly sunny Monday and a sunny Tuesday."
