Buchtel Avenue in Akron closed for the weekend after part of road collapses

The city of Akron is closing a section of East Buchtel Avenue for the weekend after part of the road collapsed.

The Akron mayor's office posted on Facebook that the collapse happened at 680 E. Buchtel Ave. Friday evening.

The road will be closed from East Market Street to Straw Alley.

The mayor said crews are backfilling the hole with stone and placing steel plates until they can make a full repair. Businesses and apartments will still have access to their property.
