Buc-ee's in Kentucky: Where they are in the state and what to know about them

A new Buc-ee's is expected to open soon in Kentucky. But those not familiar with the Texas-founded brand could be wondering why it's a big deal.

Buc-ee's is known for its award-winning clean bathrooms, food—including beaver nuggets, jerky and homemade brisket— and the beaver mascot, which can be found on apparel and other products at the store (and in stuffed form).

When the first Kentucky location opened in 2022 in Richmond U.S. Rep. Andy Barr said in the opening ceremony that Buc-ee's has built a "cult following," The Courier Journal previously reported.

What is Buc-ee's?

Buc-ee's is a gas station, and a big one at that — the Richmond, Kentucky, location has about 120 gas pumps. It also has a convenience store that sells food, apparel and branded objects, including keychains.

The brand has earned several recognitions — a Tennessee store won a world record for being the largest convenience store; the brand holds the record for the longest car wash; and they won a contest in 2012 by Cintas for having the cleanest bathrooms in the country.

Where did Buc-ee's start?

Buc-ee's was founded in Texas, The Courier Journal previously reported.

"Ever since our inception in 1982, we have been committed to providing a clean, friendly, and in stock experience for our customers," according to its website.

How many Buc-ee's are in Kentucky?

There is currently only one Buc-ee's in Richmond, Kentucky, 1013 Buc-ee's Boulevard which opened in April 2022.

A second one is expected to open this summer in Smith's Grove, about 15 miles outside of Bowling Green, The Courier Journal previously reported. No official opening date has been posted yet, but the new store will likely open sometime during the summer of 2024, a Buc-ee's spokesperson said in an email.

A third location was hinted for Oak Grove (by Hopkinsville).

Where are Buc-ee's near me?

The brand's website does not list any Buc-ee's locations in Ohio or Indiana, but there are two locations in Tennessee.

• Crossville, Tennessee: 2045 Genesis Road, Crossville, Tennessee

• Seviervlle, Tennessee: 170 Buc-ee’s Boulevard, Kodak, Tennessee

For those traveling a little farther, Georgia has two locations:

• Calhoun, Georgia: 601 Union Grove Road SE, Adairsville, Georgia

• Warner Robins, Georgia: 7001 Russell Parkway, Fort Valley, Georgia
