Brooksville man arrested after bullet hits man on top of head: HCSO

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — A Brooksville man has been charged after a bullet struck a victim on top of his head earlier this week, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the 27-year-old victim, he went to a friend’s house on Wednesday morning where he was approached by the suspect, 25-year-old Jamerson Badger, a convicted felon, and got into a verbal altercation.

The victim told officials that as he saw Badger pull a firearm from his waistband, he tackled Badger, fearing he would get shot. However, the victim said the gun went off, and a bullet hit him on the top of his head.

Before deputies arrived at the scene, family members took the victim to the hospital to be treated for the graze wound on his head.

According to deputies, the two continued to fight until the victim got up and ran to his car, as Badger ran inside the home.

Later, Badger was approached by deputies, who said he went to the victim to talk about an incident he had with one of the victim’s family members. Badger claimed the victim was the one who had the gun and said it went off as he tried to get the gun.

Officials arrested Badger on charges of aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center and is being held without bond, due to violating a previous bond conditions from a narcotics arrest.

In November 2021, Badger was arrested on eight counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a count of felon in possession of a firearm, for allegedly firing an assault rifle at a group of people on Thanksgiving Day.
