Bridge connecting southern Nevada and Arizona communities set to open in June

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — After decades of planning and construction, Laughlin, Nevada, and Bullhead City will be united by a bridge that residents say has been a long time coming.

The bridge, which cost $60 million, will reduce travel distance between the two communities by approximately 9 miles. Construction began in 2021 after more than two decades of initial planning, leading to the bridge’s scheduled opening on June 7.

Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft said construction of the bridge was critical not just for improving traffic flow. The more than 700-foot-long structure is also vital for responding to emergencies.

Carrie Larson, President of the Laughlin Chamber of Commerce, said the bridge has been a “hot topic for decades.”

“Right now, as you travel between the communities, you have about a 30-minute loop to drive around,” Larson said.

The project includes a small nature refuge for birds, as well as biking and hiking trails for outdoor enthusiasts.

The question of the bridge’s name remains unanswered. Naft said that while the bridge will be named before its opening, it will not be named after a person. Clark County officials are considering suggestions for the bridge’s name.
