Bridge to airport closing from Tuesday into early July

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The curved bridge that takes drivers from westbound Kellogg to Wichita Eisenhower National Airport will close starting Tuesday and last until early July.

The bridge connects westbound U.S. 54/U.S. 400 to southbound Eisenhower Airport Parkway. Most drivers can take the usual exit, drive past the closed ramp, and turn left onto Eisenhower Airport Parkway.

For drivers with large vehicles, such as semis hauling trailers, the detour involves staying on Kellogg, taking the Tyler Road exit and then turning back toward the airport.

The Kansas Department of Transportation says workers need to do maintenance on the bridge, including painting the bridge rail and deck drain cleaning.

When it is done in early July, work will begin on a second bridge at the interchange and then a third bridge. The work should be finished in early November, depending on weather conditions.

The three-bridge repair project is estimated to cost $1.26 million.
