Brick City inviting people to “get Mooned in Malvern”

MALVERN, Ark. — A friendly face, green or otherwise, is what Arkansans hope people will see along every stop in the path of totality. In the brick capital of the world, the foundation has been laid for guests who already started driving on Friday.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event for our community. People are going to remember it forever, so we are just so excited,” Clare Graham, Main Street Malvern President stated.

Graham and other volunteers organized Eclipse over the Brick City which includes free events throughout eclipse weekend.

Friday E.T. will be played downtown at the corner of West Third and Main Streets. Saturday, a “Pre-Eclipse Party” starts at 10 A.M. with live music, food, and games.

It concludes with an out-of-this-world ‘‘Glow Party” with DJ from 8 P.M. to 10 P.M.

Of course, the main attraction is Monday. Downtown businesses are getting into the spirit with plenty of eclipse-themed memorabilia you can eat or buy and take with you.

“I hope that we get a bunch of traffic through here. I think we will,” Stephen Bailey, Coffee Records co-owner said.

The event run by volunteers would not be possible without a grant from the Simon’s Foundation whose empowered over 100 events in 13 states to make totality memorable. Malvern received $10,000.

“About a dollar per person here in Malvern, so that’s pretty good,” Mason Rose, Coffee Records co-owner said.

Eclipse: These Arkansas cities offer the longest totality

It’s already attracted more than extra-terrestrials seen traveling town. Marie Hamburger traveled from Tennessee to witness her second total solar eclipse

“A lot of people think just looking at the sun disappearing is really cool, but the shadows and everything around, just seeing everything dark and hearing all the insects and stuff It’s just a really cool experience,” Hamburger described.

Malvern will experience 2m38s of totality, and those in attendance can get a sticker “I got Mooned in Malvern”.
