SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — On the same day that Aaron Peskin said that he will run to become San Francisco’s next mayor, the current mayor’s campaign spokesman called Peskin “the Terminator” of progress in the city.

Joe Arellano, Mayor London Breed’s re-election campaign spokesman, did not mince words when describing Peskin, the Board of Supervisors President.

Breed is seeking re-election in November. In anticipation of the big upcoming announcement, Arellano said if voters pick Peskin, the outcome “would mean ‘hasta la vista, baby’ for our local economy, our housing, and our city’s future.”

Arellano wrote in a statement to KRON4 Wednesday, “Aaron Peskin is synonymous with intimidation, obstruction, and dysfunction: literally the triple crown of moving San Francisco backwards. He is the person most-responsible for creating a city of haves and have nots, by limiting the amount of housing that gets built and freezing out young people from owning a home. He’s also a hypocrite — he masquerades as a progressive. If you could go into a laboratory and construct an individual designed to single-handedly destroy all progress in San Francisco, he would be it. He’s the Terminator.”

Peskin did not respond to the “Terminator” comment on Wednesday. Instead, he simply said, “I’m planning to run but it’s not formally official yet.”

Former mayor and venture capitalist Mark Farrell has already thrown his hat into the mayoral race.

Other candidates include Supervisor Ahsha Safaí, as well as Daniel Lurie, a philanthropist and heir to Levi Strauss. All of the contenders will appear on the November ballot and voters will rank them by preference.

Supervisor Peskin represents District 3, which encompasses North Beach, Chinatown, Fisherman’s Wharf, Union Square, Financial District, Telegraph Hill, Russian Hill, and Nob Hill. He is currently serving his fifth non-consecutive term on the Board of Supervisors.
