A brand new Pre-K through 8th grades school is coming to the City of Mullens

MULLENS, WV (WVNS) – Wyoming County Schools celebrated three groundbreaking ceremonies on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 – one of which was for an entirely new school.

A Pre-K through 8th grade school will be built on the old Mullens football field. School board members, students, and faculty all gathered to witness the monumental groundbreaking ceremony.

Mullens to host 45th annual Dogwood Festival

Currently, the city of Mullens has only one elementary school and one middle school.

Deirdre Cline, Superintendent of Wyoming County Schools, said this project has been a long process, but she’s glad to see this all of the hard work that went into this project come to fruition.

“Celebratory. Celebratory of the teamwork that put this all together. From the beginning of the project to the passage of the facilities bond,” said Cline.

As both the elementary and middle school buildings get older, this new facility will bring both schools together at one new, modern location.

Jordan McBride, Principal of Mullens Middle School, said this is the perfect gift for students.

“So, the school I am currently in was my high school. So, to have gone from there to this to get to see what these kids get to have is extremely exciting. These kids deserve it. To see a beautiful new building or a beautiful new space. It’s electric,” said McBride to 59News.
