BPD officers to face off at ‘Battle of the Badges’ May 17 at Kern County Fairgrounds

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Lets get ready to rumble!

Bakersfield police officers have begun training for the 28th annual Battle of the Badges. Juan Orozco Executive Director of the Bakersfield Police Activities League joined 17 News at Noon to talk about the upcoming boxing event.

“It’s a huge event. We’re all first responders, and also military if they want to join. It’s pretty much a boxing fight and one of our biggest events,” Orozco said. PAL is also looking for sponsors and fighters to participate in the May 17 event.

Mindful Monday: Why are youth in America less happy than in other developed nations?

Bakersfield PAL helps Kern youth by getting involved in educational and athletic after-school programs in an effort to help kids stay away from drugs, gang activity, and theft. Funds from the event will go toward these programs so children in the community have somewhere to turn to and stay out of trouble.

If you would like to join in a boxing bout, help sponsor the event or get your children involved in the Police Activities League call 661-283-8880 or info@BakersfieldPAL.org.
