Boy killed in motorcycle crash in West Jordan

WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) — A boy died Saturday morning after crashing a motorcycle on Mountain View Corridor Highway.

West Jordan Police Sgt. Andrew Hercules said the crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. in the highway’s southbound lanes near the intersection of 9000 South.

“When officers arrived, they determined this accident appeared to have been a single-vehicle crash and no other vehicles were involved,” he told ABC4.

Paramedics pronounced the boy dead at the scene. Neither his name nor his age have been released. Police only referred to him as a juvenile male, adding that they are in the process of notifying his family.

Conditions on the Wasatch Front were rainy Saturday morning, but police aren’t yet sure if weather played a role in the crash.

“The investigation is still ongoing as to what caused the accident,” Hercules said.

Part of Mountain View Corridor Highway was shut down for hours as crews investigated the scene. It has since reopened in both directions.

Hercules said it takes a toll on the officers who respond to a crash where a young person dies.

“Rolling up on an accident where you have a juvenile, it’s one of the worst things you can see as an officer,” he said. “It’s difficult.”
