Boy allegedly knocked mom unconscious after assaulting her with kitchen pan

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A boy was arrested in Battle Ground, Wash. on Thursday morning after assaulting his mom with a kitchen pan, knocking her unconscious, officials said.

Officers were dispatched to the residence in the 1600 block of SW 4th Street. just after 8:45 a.m. after receiving a report that a woman was being assaulted by her son with a knife and a “blunt object,” according to the City of Battle Ground.

“Upon arrival, officers contacted the adult female victim outside of the residence, who indicated that the juvenile suspect was the sole remaining occupant inside the residence. The suspect was described as a juvenile male with cognitive delays which render him non-verbal with most people,” officials said.

The mom had several cuts on her arms and appeared to be disoriented when speaking to officers after being struck in the head. She was transported to an area hospital for additional medical treatment, officials said

Additional officers secured the scene and were able to negotiate with the boy, who was still inside the home, and convinced him to exit the residence, police said. He was arrested and charged with second-degree assault-domestic violence.

“This was an incredibly difficult situation, and I am immensely proud of how our officers conducted the scene,” said Battle Ground Police Chief Dennis Flynn. “Their actions help bring this potentially volatile situation to a successful resolution. Our thoughts now turn to this young man and his family, in hopes that he can receive the proper mental health care assistance that he needs.”

The case has been forwarded to the Clark County Juvenile Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
