Blue 2 Fire near Ruidoso grows to nearly 7K acres, still 0% contained

UPDATE 5/27: The Blue 2 Fire is now estimated to be at 6,863 acres with 0 percent containment, according to Blue 2 Fire’s Facebook page. According to the Blue 2 Fire incident page, 532 firefighting personnel are now on scene.

They expect to continue to be busy with air operations, dropping fire retardant on the fire Monday, May 27.

UPDATE 5/26: The Blue 2 Fire is now estimated to be 6,615 acres, according to the Lincoln National Forest in an update on Sunday night. They did not provide any information on containment, which had been listed as 0 percent earlier Sunday.

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Blue 2 Fire, outside of Ruidoso, New Mexico, has grown to more than 6,000 acres and continues to be 0 percent contained, according to the latest information released by the New Mexico Forestry Division on Sunday, May 26.

The fire is burning about 8 miles north of Ruidoso and was caused by lightning on May 16.

The latest estimate of acres that have been impacted by the fire now stands at 6,213, according to the NM Forestry Division.

Additional firefighters have arrived and more resources are en route, according to the New Mexico Forestry Division.

High winds, gusts expected to affect Blue 2 Fire near Ruidoso

“Firefighters are working along the most active parts of the fire where they can safely engage and are working both during the day and night. Air resources will be used for water and retardant drops on the fire as weather conditions allow,” according to the news release.

Right now, 475 fire personnel are fighting the fire with 42 engines, five helicopters and two bulldozers, according to the release.

UPDATE: Fire near Cloudcroft now 92% contained

“The fire has been most active on the northeast and southern perimeters. An acre spot fire was
detected in the Dry Mills Canyon and a 100-acre spot fire was detected on Solider Mountain,” according to the release.
