Blowing dirt causes blackout conditions in Kansas

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Authorities are advising caution for drivers as high winds cause low visibility for drivers.

In McPherson County, the Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post Pawnee Road between 15th and 16th Avenues are closed due to “blackout conditions” from blowing dirt.

Elsewhere in Kearny County in western Kansas, blowing dirt is also causing visibility problems. Kearny County Fire Rescue posted the below photos showing a difference of 30 seconds between the photo on the left and the right as dirt blowing across the roads reduced visibility.

Kearny County Fire Rescue said the photos were taken east of Deerfield by Kansas Dairy Development.

Officials are asking for drivers to be cautious while out driving Saturday.
