What is Bloodquest 8500? Fresno drive for blood donations has begun

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The demand for blood around the nation continues to exceed the amount of donations given prompting a new Central Valley initiative, launched by the Central California Blood Center, to urge people to get out and donate.

“Bloodquest 8500” aims to collect 8,500 units of blood, calling for local employers to give workers extra time so they can donate blood during the day.

Officials with the Central California Blood Center say 5,000 donations are needed every month, and one person can donate once every eight weeks – up to six times a year.
