Blood, sweat, and swings for good cause in Dunmore

DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Blood, sweat, and swings, all for a good cause. On Sunday in Lackawanna County, about 120 people came out to raise awareness and funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the organization dedicated to fighting blood cancer.

The softball tournament included a game at the top of every hour, one on each field at Saint Anthony’s Memorial Playground in Dunmore.

Based on the turnout, we’re told this could become an annual event.

Participants say it was a home run, getting to play ball while giving back.

“It’s really hard to kind of get everyone together for something like this, especially with us being a little past our primes. It’s kind of nice to get out and do something like this,” said Milford resident Brandon Tsaptsinos.

The softball tournament also included cornhole, basket raffles, and a food sale.

If you’d like to get involved, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has several fundraisers planned now through June.
