WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – As the war in Gaza continues U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will be testifying before Congress again Wednesday.

His appearance at a hearing Tuesday drew protests over policy in the Middle East.

Republicans, Democrats and protestors were taking aim at the U.S.’s policy toward Israel in its war against Hamas.

“We’re standing with Israel in its efforts to ensure that what happened on October 7th never happens again,” said Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken told lawmakers the U.S. is also trying to get more humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Maryland Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen says not enough is being done.

“That hurts our credibility around the world, and it sets a dangerously low bar for what’s acceptable going forward,” said Van Hollen.

The hearing comes after the international criminal court’s chief prosecutor said he’s pushing to arrest Israeli and Hamas leaders over alleged war crimes.

Blinken denounced the move.

“The shameful equivalence implied between Hamas and the leadership of Israel, I think that only complicates the prospects for getting such an agreement,” said Blinken.

Meanwhile, Idaho Republican Senator James Risch said the U.S. should be doing more to support Israel, criticizing the pause of a recent weapons shipment.

“The administration is imposing costs on Israel. You must stop blaming Israel and let Israel remove Hamas from Gaza. That is the only way to move forward,” said Risch.

Blinken will testify before the House Appropriations and Foreign Affairs Committees.
