Blind, seriously ill dog dumped in CT is euthanized. Authorities looking for owner

Authorities are looking for information about the owner of a dog that had to be euthanized after recently being found abandoned in Hartford.

The dog, named Brooke by Animal Control Officers, suffered from “one of the worst cases of pyometra,” according to the Hartford Animal Shelter.

Pyometra is a serious and life-threatening infection in the uterus, according to VCA animal hospitals.

Brooke was found dumped in Hartford recently and was found to be blind and barely able to move, the animal shelter said. She was found wearing a dog sweatshirt that said “bad fur day,” a camo harness and rosary beads wrapped around her front paw.

The animal was euthanized Thursday morning “peacefully, surrounded by caring hands and kisses on her head,” the shelter wrote in a Facebook post.

“Yes, she is at peace but this did not have to happen the way it did. There is no reason for any animal to suffer needlessly.”

The shelter is asking for anyone who recognizes the dog or those with information to contact investigators at 860-757-4390. Information can be left anonymously.
