Black Hills Energy alerts about impostor utility workers

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — On Tuesday, April 9, Black Hills Energy warned customers in the Pueblo area to beware of scams where people call or knock on doors posing as utility employees in an attempt to sell solar systems.

During the visits, the scammer may ask the customer questions about their monthly bills, and in some cases, the scammer may ask to see their meter. Black Hills Energy warns that these individuals are not legitimate employees or contractors of the company.

According to Black Hills Energy, they do not sell or install solar systems and do not partner directly with solar installers. Customers concerned about the identity of someone claiming to work for the company should call Black Hills Energy at 1 (888) 890-5554. Customers can also verify whether an employee was dispatched to their location.

Additionally, if someone calls and claims to represent Black Hills Energy, demanding immediate payment or personal information, customers should hang up and call the customer service number listed above. They should never provide their Social Security number, credit card numbers, or bank account information during an unsolicited phone call or unannounced visit.

Black Hills Energy employees and contractors wear shirts displaying the company’s logo, carry a company-issued photo ID, and drive vehicles that show the logo. Company employees will readily wait outside while customers call customer service to verify their identity.

Customers experiencing financial hardships and having difficulty paying their energy bills on time can visit the company’s website at www.blackhillsenergy.com to find options to assist with those hardships.
