Bingo held to raise money for veterans and the community

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Now to a fun-filled evening, all while giving back to our veterans. A local veteran organization held a big fundraiser for the first time in a long time.

It was certainly an exciting night in Kingston as everyone hoped they had the chance to yell, “Bingo”.

But the real reason the American Legion Post 395 was filled to capacity was to raise money for our community and veterans.

The lucky two who hold those winning bingo cards were not the biggest champs at Black Diamond American Legion Post 395’s bingo fundraiser on Saturday.

The real winners are those for whom the game was played for our veterans.

“For everything they’ve done for us, this is our only way of helping them. So whatever we can do, however, we can do it, that’s what we do,” said Lisa Sebolka, Auxiliary President of Black Diamond American Legion Post 395.

All of the money raised at the fundraiser will go back to outreach programs that benefit veterans, the military, and the community.

Auxiliary President, Sebolka, says this was the legion’s first big fundraiser since before the pandemic.

“We are just starting to do them again. We hope to be doing at least one bingo again a year, hopefully more, and this is our start again to the big fundraisers,” says Sebolka.

The crowd was excited for the return of basket raffles, bingo, and community support… Filling the place to capacity.

“It’s wonderful to see them all here. It’s tremendous. It just goes to show that people still care,” continued Sebolka.

Jean Talamelli was just one among the crowd.

She says she supports the organization and our veterans in any way she can.

“Every time they have something going on, they have a night at the races we come, whenever they have the bingo we come. We try to support them as much as we can,” stated Talamelli.

And by the looks of the packed house, it’s clear to Talamelli that she’s not the only one in the community looking to give back.

“It shows some support and if you look around the crowd they’re filled to capacity which does the heart good, to know there’s support in our area for our troops,” added Talamelli.

As mentioned, post 395 is planning to bring back more of their big fundraisers so keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates.
