How big was hail from severe storms in central Ohio?

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Hail of varying sizes pelted central Ohio during severe storms, which rose to tornado warnings at some points Wednesday evening.

Photos and videos captured from Hilliard to Gahanna showed hail falling around 5:30 p.m. in the Columbus metropolitan area. At the NBC4 studios, hail appeared to be the size of ping pong balls. When it progressed to the Gahanna area, the balls of ice appeared closer to the size of pennies.

The Ohio Department of Transportation had to close a ramp from State Route 161 to Interstate 270 South for a few hours due to flooding from the storm.

Bucyrus police reported damage from a confirmed rotation, which included structures, powerlines and trees. On East Charles Street, a large tree toppled over, taking down powerlines with it. Other areas of the city showed similar damage.

There were also reports of downed wires in Fallsbury and Granville townships in Licking County.
