Biden and Trump to debate in Atlanta, announces CNN

A debate in a presidential rematch is coming to Atlanta. CNN announced Wednesday that it will be hosting a presidential debate in June, with both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump confirming their attendance.

Georgia is a crucial battleground state for both candidates, with Biden eeking out a slim plurality in the state in 2020, and Trump narrowly winning in 2016.

The debate will be held at 9 p.m. June 27, and will be filmed at CNN’s Atlanta studios. Unlike many previous presidential debates, there will not be an audience present, a decision a news release said would “ensure candidates may maximize the time allotted in the debate."

Moderators for the debate have yet to be announced, according to the news release. It will be aired live by CNN, CNN International, CNN en Español, CNN Max, and CNN.com.

The candidates have also accepted a second invitation from ABC to attend a debate on Sept. 10.

“Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020," Biden said in a video released Wednesday as reported by Capitol Beat. "Since then he hasn’t shown up for a debate. Now he’s acting like he wants to debate me again. Well, make my day, pal, I’ll even do it twice."

“I am Ready and Willing to Debate Crooked Joe at the two proposed times in June and September,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social website, noted Capitol Beat. "Let's get ready to Rumble!!!"
