WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President Joe Biden campaigned in the Sunshine State Tuesday to spotlight new attacks on reproductive rights.

His trip to Florida came one week before a law banning most abortions after six weeks takes effect there.

“It’s criminalizing reproductive healthcare before women even know whether they’re pregnant,” President Biden told a crowd of supporters.

The president warned reproductive rights for millions of Americans are at stake in this year’s elections.

“There’s one person responsible for this nightmare, and he’s acknowledged and he’s bragged about it: Donald Trump,” Biden said.

Former President Donald Trump, the Republican frontrunner and Florida resident, celebrates the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that ended the federal right to an abortion.

“For 52 years, people have wanted to end Roe v. Wade and get it back to the states,” Trump said during a campaign stop earlier this month in Georgia. “We did that. It was an incredible thing, an incredible achievement.”

In November, Florida voters will consider a ballot measure that would put abortion protections into the state’s constitution. Trump has not said how he will vote.

President Biden is using the state as a warning of what could happen nationwide if he’s not re-elected and warned if Congress tries to pass a national ban, “as long as I have the power of the presidency, that’s never going to happen.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and former Trump rival for the Republican presidential nomination, said Floridians aren’t buying what Biden is selling.

“We’re going to play an instrumental role in sending him back to Delaware where he belongs,” DeSantis said.
