Best Buddies Friendship Walk returning to Champaign

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — On Thursday, the Best Buddies Friendship Walk is returning to Champaign for a second year. The event celebrates and supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Friendship Walk will begin at 11 a.m. at Edison Middle School. Participants will gather for registration and team photos. The opening ceremonies will commence at 11:40 p.m., with the walk starting at noon.

EIU invites people with disabilities onto football field for special event

Free food from Wood N’ Hog Barbecue will be available after the community stroll, as well as accessible activities, games, and dancing. Attendees can also purchase Kona ICE and connect with partners, including AETNA and Dick’s House of Sport.

The event has a $15,000 fundraising goal. So far, almost $9,500 has been raised. Donations support Best Buddies programs, which host more than 70 Friendship Walks with 50,000 participants worldwide.
