How to Make the Best Baked Macaroni and Cheese Ever

We don’t want to sound too cheesy, but macaroni, cheddar and Gruyère go really Gouda together. (Sorry.) That’s probably why this baked mac and cheese recipe is at the top of our list of favorite comfort foods. Bonus: It’s also super easy to make.

What You Need:
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- ½ cup flour
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 quart milk
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
- 4 cups grated cheddar cheese
- 2 cups grated Gruyère cheese
- 1 pound cooked macaroni
- 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs

Step 1: Melt a stick of butter in a saucepan over medium heat.

Step 2: Add the flour and continue stirring until well combined.

Step 3: Add the nutmeg and slowly pour the milk into the mixture, stirring constantly.

Step 4: Once the mixture begins to thicken, salt and pepper to taste. Now add the cheddar and Gruyère cheeses.

Step 5: Pour your ooey, gooey cheese sauce over a 9-by-13-inch pan of cooked macaroni, coat the top with Panko breadcrumbs and bake at 375°F for 25 minutes.
