BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Bernalillo County Commissioners are expected to consider next steps to replace outgoing County Manager Julie Morgas Baca at their meeting on Tuesday. Her resignation will go into effect at the end of June as she retires.

County Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada said he will introduce a resolution at the meeting to establish a public process for the selection of the next county manager.

According to Quezada, the proposed process would include securing a recruitment firm by the end of March, conducting a series of town hall meetings in each commission district to gather input, and establish an online stakeholder survey through the month of April. All the information gathered will be presented to the commissioners, who will select and interview the finalists. The plan includes the announcement of a new county manager by June 14.

“Julie Morgas Baca has set a standard of collaboration with other government agencies, demonstrated fiscal responsibility and advanced the county to new levels of competency and service to residents,” Quezada stated in a news released. “This position is central and critical to all the operations of Bernalillo County and the overall process I am recommending will allow the board to select the best candidate with transparency to the public and beneficial input from the community.”

Morgas Baca was appointed in 2015. Since then, she has helped boost behavioral health for programs in the county and helped move county offices into the Alvarado Square office in downtown Albuquerque.
