Berks bank robbed by same man who held up a New Jersey credit union 1 day earlier, police say

A man robbed a bank in eastern Berks County on Thursday afternoon, a day after holding up a credit union in New Jersey about 40 miles to the northeast, police said Friday.

A white male wearing the identical hat, flannel shirt and medical face mask robbed Truist Bank at 706 Main St. in Bally on Thursday and First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union just over the state line near Phillipsburg, N.J., on Wednesday, investigators said.

Bally police said he passed a note to a teller stating that he was armed and demanding money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, he left.

Witnesses were unable to provide a vehicle description or direction of travel. However, police discovered the same man committed a silent robbery of First Commonwealth Credit Union in Lapatcong Township.

According to Lopatcong Township police, the robber got into a black Toyota sedan. Investigators are unsure if the robber has ties to this area or New Jersey.

Anyone who can identify the suspect is asked to submit an anonymous tip to Crime Alert Berks County. Crime Alert will pay a cash reward if the tip leads to an arrest.
