Berea man dies in house fire

Apr. 22—At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday morning, the Berea Fire Department (BFD) received a call for a structure fire at 129 Barrett Lane.

Upon arrival, crews found the house to be fully involved, according to the BFD.

While a crew extinguished the fire, a separate search crew conducted a search of the home for possible victims trapped inside.

The search crew was able to locate one victim and was identified by Coroner Jimmy Cornelison. Matthew Dallam, 59, was found deceased inside the home.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and Cornelison confirmed that an autopsy will be performed today.

A statement from BFD states, "Berea Fire Department's deepest condolences go out to the family and friends who have lost a home and a loved one in tonight's fire. We would also like to say thank you to Madison County Sheriff's Office, Berea Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Madison County EMS, and the Madison County Coroner's Office for all of the assistance in this matter."
