Bemidji City Council to consider resolution supporting housing project

Apr. 1—BEMIDJI — The

Bemidji City Council

will hold a regular session tonight, with the discussion set to include a resolution to support a proposed 39-unit affordable housing project, the award of a bid to expand the city's wastewater treatment plant dump site, and a memorandum of understanding with Sanford Health to extend 34th Street Northwest.

The council was first informed about the housing project

during its work session last week,

as part of a presentation by the Headwaters Regional Development Commission. The project, which would create 39 units of housing on the north side of town, would be in partnership with the Beltrami Housing Redevelopment Authority.

During the presentation, the council was asked to be the grant applicant, which it will consider during tonight's meeting.

The council will also discuss awarding a bid to expand the city's wastewater treatment plant dump site, which is where waste materials from cleaning sewer pipes, manholes and lift stations are disposed.

Two bids were received by the city, with the recommendation that the council accept the lower bid by Bowman and Sons at $15,000 for the project.

The council will also discuss an MOU with Sanford Health to partner on the expansion of 34th Street Northwest to Hannah Avenue Northwest.

The project, which was presented to the council

during a meeting in January,

has an estimated cost of $1,148,447. Under the memorandum, Sanford Health would be responsible for $495,411 and the city would pay $653,036.

Design for the project is underway, with construction anticipated later this year.

The city council meeting will take place at 6 p.m. tonight, April 1, at city hall. The meeting can also be viewed on the city website,
