Bel-Nor Police Department dissolving at the end of April

BEL-NOR, Mo. – The mayor of Bel-Nor announced Friday that the city’s police department will dissolve at the end of the month.

The closure stems from rising costs that their budget “cannot keep up” with, according to a statement from the city. The department’s last day will be April 25.

“This was a heart-wrenching decision and the City would like to thank each officer for his loyal
service to the residents of Bel-Nor, especially Chief Ford and Captain Seabaugh, who went above and beyond in caring for our residents for 23 and 9 years, respectively,” a letter from Mayor Bill Hook said.

“The process of finding a good match for our residents to feel comfortable with began immediately upon receiving notice that some of our officers had been offered positions at other agencies and intended to tender their resignations,” the letter stated.

The city says they will create a contract with another agency for law enforcement support. In the meantime, the City of St. John is said to be the department to respond to emergency calls until permanent plans have been made.
